Does the type of event or incidence determine the length of time that one experiences happiness?
What does this have to do with our conversations around emotions?

I think this quote is saying that all emotions are true, because in your mind they are justified. Anger can always be supported by your own personal opinion. Say, you were angry at Barack Obama for winning over McCain, that can be justified by your political opinion. As a personal example, I once found out something discriminating about a person very close to me, and my personal opinion of them has been significantly altered by that. Even if I had no idea about the circumstances, my opinion about them could not change, because I know they could be lying to cover it up.
Although I've never really spoken to them again, I should have allowed their defense, but I still would have justified my own opinion by altering my perception of the truth.
